NYC part 4: The People We Know

Finally, the day has arrived! We get to see People We Know.

First up: Kathryn!

Kathryn inspired this trip to NYC, since she loves living there so much. She joined Drew and me for the matinee of The Addams Family. It was quite a show!

After the show, we went back to Carnegie Deli. It was again delicious, but the food - like last time - was too much! Check out the matzo balls in the matzo ball soup:

After dinner, with plans made to meet up with Kathryn again for the Macy's Parade the next morning, we crossed the street for a brief stop at our hotel. Being in NYC, though, we weren't done for the day: MOMA, a Broadway show, and dinner at Carnegie Deli weren't enough for us!

No, we first headed back to Times Square so that Drew could pick out a new Hard Rock Cafe shirt. He's got quite a collection: Hong Kong, Dubai, Moscow, even an outgrown NYC t-shirt. But it's always fun to get a new one, and certainly he needed a new one from NYC.

We dropped Drew's bag off at our room and hopped a train for 78th in an attempt to meet an old friend, James-Allen. Of course, we took the wrong train and ended up somewhere else, separated by the throngs of people checking out the Macy's balloons.

Eventually, we found each other and enjoyed a preview of the next day's show.

Of course, Drew was there, too!

All the balloons were face down, ready for the next day's parade. I was terrible at identifying them, but Drew and J-A were in heated competition to guess which balloon was which first!

I think this is the only one I got before them, but only because I was so excited about it and diligently searching for it!

While visiting, J-A mentioned a few of the people he'd seen around. Not only an old mutual friend, but Kevin Bacon. "You always see Kevin Bacon," he said, "because he rides the train. I see him all the time."

Seriously?? I'VE GOT TWO STEPS TO KEVIN BACON!

The next day, of course we saw Kathryn again (but the Macy's Parade gets its own blog entry!), and we were hoping to see Patty and Tom for the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit.

Their plan was to fly in Wednesday night, while Drew and I were spying the Macy's balloons. Alas, Patty and Tom were stuck in Baton Rouge ... "mechanical problems" or some such non-sense. Of course, I'd rather the mechanics find the problems before the plane is in the air, so it was all cool.

Patty and Tom, prepared to fly:

Anyway, other than barely being able to keep my eyes open (we went to the exhibit at 3 p.m. after having been up since 4:45 a.m. - see the Macy's blog), the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit was fabulous! Patty and Tom eventually made it to NYC, and to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, and they thought it was fabulous, too. Alas, we did not think it was fabulous at the same time, but that's just an excuse for another museum tour ... or trip to NYC ... or Paris!

That night, Drew and I ordered out from an Irish pub and packed our suitcases for the trip home. Friday morning, we slept in, ate a quick breakfast, and then headed to the airport, exhausted.

Thankfully, we were able to see most of the LSU - Arkansas game, though the second half was viewed on a seat-back in the air!

We left NYC after a great experience and with lots of new memories ... and of course, plans to return for another fun-filled trip, including ...

--> the best NYC event: The Macy's Parade!! (coming soon to a blog near you)
